How to get iron ore in Fae Farm
After getting through several floors of coal, stone, and copper ore, the Saltwater Mines will eventually yield iron. It first begins to appear on the 10th floor with a very low chance of spawning, so seals should be crafted and placed on the previous floors to get here faster.
Starting at floor 10, Iron ore appears sporadically and is most common on floors 17-24. The Saltwater Mines only have 25 floors, so players should be careful of the dangers on these later levels. Health restoration potions and energy-restoring food is recommended.
Fae Farm also includes a helpful mechanic where all of a dungeon's resources will respawn after sleeping, so players wanting to farm iron should activate the dungeon's fast travel pedestal to cut down on their travel time.
How to get Iron Ingots in Fae Farm
Turning ore into ingots is fairly simple - the first thing you'll need is a stone forge. To craft one, you'll need:
- Stone (25)
- Coal (10)
Both resources are easy to come by on every floor of the Saltwater Mine. Once the stone forge is placed on your farm, smelting one ingot requires:
- Iron Ore (10)
- Coal (2)
The ingot will then be ready for collection after about 20 seconds. Several ingots can be smelted at once, but they'll still only be ready one at a time.
What is Iron for in Fae Farm?
Iron is useful no matter its form. Like copper before it, taking iron ore to a seal crafting station can see it turn into various seals that will let you fast travel down to the deeper levels of the Saltwater Mine.
It can also be sold as-is, given to NPCs if they randomly ask for it, or be the focus of a shipping contract when they're unlocked later in the story. Like other items in the game, it's worth keeping at least ten iron in storage in case it's ever quickly needed.
Iron ingots are also useful for making new crafting stations. Gem polishers are a great source of money and require two iron ingots to make, while a potion cauldron can keep you alive after it's made with two iron ingots and a bunch of other resources.
How to use iron tool abilities in Fae Farm
Each one of Fae Farm's main tools can be upgraded to iron for two iron ingots and 500 florins. The game promises iron tools have a 'magical ability,' and they can be activated by:
- Axe - Hold F near a tree to throw the axe and deal heavy damage
- Pickax - Hold F near a rock to damage all rocks in a small area
- Sickle - Hold F near plants to sickle all plants in a small area
- Shovel - Hold F near mounds to dig up all mounds in a small area
- Watering can - Hold F near crops to water all crops in a small area
These abilities grow more powerful with areas of effect growing larger with each new upgrade. Even at Iron level, they can be an effective tool to save time on otherwise mundane tasks.
