How to get the Phoenix Materia in Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion

The Phoenix Materia is one of the missable summons available in Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, so it pays to know when (and where) to find it.

It's linked to the Seven Wonders of Nibelheim questline you'll hear about if you speak to one of the kids around town. We use the term "questline" loosely, though. It's more of a hint or suggestion as to where to go to find some cool rewards around town - one of which happens to be the Phoenix Materia.

You can find the materia without ever talking to the brat. It's really close by and makes sense given his hint about the town's water supply running red.

So, once you find yourself in Nibelheim, climb the ladder up to the top of the water tower right in the middle of town.

Peer into the pool up there and you'll notice that, yes, the water certainly is red. But you'll also notice the reason why: the Phoenix Materia sitting in it. With that, you'll claim your prize.

Now, does the theory of the materia's colour running into the stream make any sense? Not really. As noted by the cast, that's not really how the stuff works. Unless it's a man-made materia, perhap.

It could purely be symbolic, some divine occurrence, or maybe even just a case of the town adding food colouring to the water to spin a tall tale tourist trap. Don't puzzle yourself with it.

How to use the Phoenix Materia in Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion

Once you pick up the Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Phoenix materia, you may go rummaging through your bags to equip it only to not find it at all. Did it turn to dust? Was it a dream? No. That's just not the kind of materia it is.

The Phoenix Materia is a Summon materia. Just like how you don't need to have an Ifrit or Chocobo materia equipped to use those summons, it's the same deal with this. Simply picking up the item adds the Phoenix summon to the DMW wheel.

From that point on, you have the chance of having the Phoenix summon show up on the DMW. It's a rare one, but it's there.

What does the Phoenix Summon do in Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion?

Having the Phoenix summon show up in the DMW allows you to case it by pushing in both thumb sticks. Once the animation plays out (or you skip it) you'll have the Raise status applied to Zack, allowing him to recover if he's defeated in battle.
