Beginner Tips

The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the mechanics of the game will take some time to get used to, especially if you haven't played a game like this one before. Aside from the tips that we've listed below, that is the main one you need to remember is that practice will make perfect.

Collect Components

Collect components when you see them throughout each chapter. This will allow you to purchase bigger and better perks at any workbench. The perks you can buy will improve Star-Lord's skills which can make the larger battles a lot easier. We have a guide on the best perks for Star-Lord, so you can take a look at why you're collecting them.

Use Guardians Mode as Much as Possible

The Guardians are a team so it makes sense that you will find it difficult to win battles or figure problems out without their help. Guardians Mode allows you to ask the other characters to perform certain attacks or actions that will help you along on your journey. If you choose not to use this mode a lot, you will find that much of the game will become a lot harder.

Explore When You Can

Even though a lot of the chapters do feel restricted, there are certain points where you can explore off of the main track and this is how you will find many collectibles for the game. Outfits and Guardian Collectibles can all be found in random areas of the chapters but you will need to explore a bit to find them. Taking the time to wander off from the group can typically yield fruitful results.

Alter Your Audio Settings

When you first start the game all of your settings will be in their default mode, including your audio settings. The soundtrack for the game is great but it can drown out a lot of the dialogue which means you can miss certain story details if you don't use subtitles. After playing through the first bit of the game, it's a good idea to go and alter the audio settings to suit you so that you can hear everything clearly.

Focus On the Big Enemies First

Quite often you will find yourself up against waves of smaller enemies with a few larger ones between them. In this case, it is much easier for you to focus all of your attack efforts on the larger enemies because they are the ones that are more likely to kill you. Certain attacks will damage surrounding enemies too so if you focus your efforts on a large one, you may still be able to damage the smaller ones at the same time.

Use Your Environment

There are certain areas where you can use your environment to give you the upper hand when facing some enemies. Not all environments in the game are built in this way but there are some places where you can use Star-Lord's jet boosters to get yourself to higher ground. From here, you can usually shoot down towards enemies below you, and this way you can cause damage without being at risk of gaining any. However, it's important to remember that all enemies operate differently and this method will not apply to all of them.

Listen to Your Guardians

The Guardians are a talkative team but this is really helpful if you listen to them, especially when you're fighting a chapter's boss. Useful hints such as how to figure out the answer to a puzzle or how to take down a difficult enemy can often be found in throw-away one-liners said by members of the team. If you listen to them carefully, they can act as your personal guides through hard areas.

Share Out the Skill Points

You collect skill points throughout the game and you can use these to purchase new skills for every Guardian. When you have skill points, it's a good idea to try to share them out between each character because all of their skills are powerful against enemies in battles. As you head through the story, you will meet bigger and harder enemies. If you've shared out the skill points between your team the team should be powerful enough to make light work of them.

If you're getting stuck on certain aspects of the game then you should take a look at the rest of our guides in our walkthrough hub.

Ice Attacks Are Good Crowd Control

As you head through the game, your Blasters will evolve 4 different elemental attacks and all of them can make taking down enemies extremely easy. Your first element will be Ice and this is arguably one of the best ways to control masses of enemies as you can freeze them for a short period of time. If you find yourself getting overwhelmed, it's a great method of crowd control.

With any game, it will take you a while to figure out how to play it and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is no different. If you're new to the game and are finding yourself getting stuck on some things, we have some guides that can help you out. Some of the guides include how to craft perks and tips for using Guardians Mode.
