Want to know what Genshin Impact Zhongli materials to farm for the return of the Geo Archon? Rex Lapis is set to return on January 24 alongside Ganyu, and this could very well be his last rerun. Arriving just in time for the return of the Lantern Rite event—which will net any and all participants a free Yun Jin yet—now's the time to start farming for his ascension, level up, and talent materials.
If you're planning to wish for Zhongli, you're going to need to consider the steps required to bring him up to speed with the rest of your roster. Ascending characters is no small feat. They're a costly time and resource investment. If you already have the highest world level, it's risky to use him until you ascend him fully. Until then, he'll have to wait in your character roster, while you merely imagine the impact his shields could be having on your party.
In this Genshin Impact Zhongli materials guide, we round up everything you need in order to ascend this five-star Geo character, both in terms of levels and talents. We also explain where to find each material, and offer some useful tips to speed up the farming process.

Where to Farm Zhongli Materials
Here, we'll explain how to get each Zhongli material and the best method for farming each one.
Prithiva Topaz and Basalt Pillars
This is the standard Geo character ascension material. You can get it from a number of bosses; including the Perpetual Mechanical Array and the Golden Wolflord. However, being an older character, Zhongli requires a bunch of Basalt Pillars as well, which you can easily get from the Geo Hypostasis in Liyue.
Since bosses in Genshin only take a few minutes to respawn, the best farming method is to find a quick way to beat it, teleport away, then return after a little while. Bring a claymore for the Geo Hypostasis boss as you'll need to smash the pillars it rests on.
If you have Dust of Azoth on hand, you can covert any surplus ascension jewels into Prithiva Topaz at an Alchemy Bench in any major town. It's a good way to avoid dealing with the load screens teleporting to and from bosses will subject you to on older devices.
You find this precious stone all across Liyue, and with the official Genshin Impact map, you can even pinpoint every single one. You can also buy five every couple of days from the Liyue Harbor merchant Changshun. Just head down the main street and you'll see her umbrella-adorned stall by the shop where you redeem Geo Sigils.
Altogether, there are 142 you can find simply by whacking rocks, so you'll only need one complete lap of Liyue and grab a few from Changshun to get enough.
Each of the different Slime items comes from defeating Slimes of varying world levels. If you don't have enough, but want to gather them while doing something else, the Blossoms of Wealth and Wisdom in Mondstadt usually feature them, so you can farm while also getting Mora or EXP items for Zhongli.
You can get Zhongli's talent ascension material from the Taishan Mansion Domain on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
To speed up your farm, be sure to use Condensed Resin to collect two lots of rewards at once. You can get the recipe for Condensed Resin by reaching reputation rank three in Liyue. Each one also costs a Crystal Core, which you can get easily enough by catching Crystalflys in certain caves and by Statues of the Seven.
Tusk of Monoceros Caeli
This weekly boss material is a reward for defeating Childe in the Trounce Domain. If you don't already have this boss unlocked just outside of Liyue Harbor, you'll have to push through the Liyue Archon quest until you do. If you've been unlucky with your drops, you can also craft the Tusk of Monoceros Caeli out of any of Childe's other boss materials. Just take the materials (including the Dream Solvent needed) to any Alchemy Bench.
Crown of Insight
Lastly, we have the Crown of Insight. You can only get crowns by upgrading the Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine and the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma. Other than that, they come from seasonal events, such as the 'Fleeting Colours in Flight' event in version 2.4. These are typically only required at the absolute end of a character upgrade sprint, so you're only going to need these to squeeze the absolute best out of Zhongli.
You need money for just about everything in Genshin, and ascending characters is particularly expensive, especially in terms of their talents. A single talent costs 1,652,000 Mora to level fully, which is quite honestly, absurd. Still, if you want your character performing at peak, you're going to need Mora to do it. Events and giveaways are a good way to get some, but the best way is to complete Blossoms of Wealth and claim double rewards using Condensed Resin. Seeing as Zhongli needs Slime items, it's a good way to also collect them.

And that's our Genshin Impact Zhongli materials farming guide. Though he certainly wasn't the best five-star character when he launched earlier in Genshin Impact's first year, the rework issued after fan outcry turned him into one of the best Geo characters around.
We hope you get him if you want him, and that this Zhongli materials guide will expediate your mission to max him out. We've also got a Ganyu materials guide, if you're planning to wish for her as well.
