When Is the Genshin Impact 2.8 Release Date?

It has been officially announced that 2.8 will release on July 13.

Table of Contents

Following Hoyoverse's usual pattern of each update lasting six weeks, Genshin 2.8 will likely last six weeks, though we may not see Genshin 2.9 follow immediately afterwards. There’s some uncertainty over whether the 2.8 patch will be the last before Sumeru, similar to Hoyoverse skipping to 2.0 in 2021 after update 1.6.

Future updates have unfortunately been delayed 'until further notice' due to the rising COVID cases in Shanghai. This is a first for the Genshin team, but reflects the severity of the situation at hand. Due to this, the Ayaka Banner has been extended to 240 days. This does not meant the update is delayed that long, it is just a placeholder time frame. Leaks have suggested that 2.7 will release as early as May 16, however.

Characters In Genshin Impact 2.8

May 16 saw Hoyoverse announce the latest character coming to Genshin Impact: Shikanoin Heizou, an Anemo Catalyst user hailing from Inazuma. He is thought to release in 2.8 due to the recent delays, and will likely be the last character from the Inazuma region.

It seems everyone's favourite flame-wielder Diluc will be getting some more attention in 2.8 too, as leaks have suggested there is a new 5-star skin for him, as well as more lore being added. There is also talk of a new dungeon battle event at the Dawn Winery, in which he will likely be involved.

What Are the Genshin Impact 2.8 Banners?

There’s equal uncertainty over what banners might feature in the update, though most leakers seem comfortable in the belief that the five-star characters in 2.8 will all be reruns. Kazuha is frequently mentioned as a probability, and some rumors are floating around suggesting Klee and Yoimiya may see reruns as well. There's a strong rumour that Kazuha's story will be unfolded as Chapter 1 in 2.8.

Kazuha and Yoimiya have yet to feature in banners since their respective debuts, and Klee’s last run was during the Midsummer Island Adventure in summer 2021.

Previous leaks about some 2.8 hangout events suggested a new four-star character - which we now know is Shikanoin Heizou. He will indeed have a Hangout quest.

What Are the Genshin Impact 2.8 Events?

Along with the new four-star character’s hangout event, there may be a new Fischl event as well. It’s reportedly tied to a new costume Fischl will receive during the update, though again, this is also labeled “questionable” in Ubatcha’s leaks.

Additional events may include the Ludi Harpastum festival in Mondstadt and the continuation of the Unreconciled Stars event, though that may only be floating around because of the Fischl rumors.

A rerun of the Islands event is on the cards too - like the Echoing Tales event on a limited-time map. It is said to be called Dreamlike Visions, though there is nothing confirmed yet. A leak of a new map corroborates this, as the name is Dream Island.

Another new map - a new exploration area - has leaked, this time named The Twining Isle and the Floating Castle, 'where the princess awaits'. Fans are speculating that the princess is in fact Fischl, due to the book 'Flowers for Princess Fischl' existing in the game.

That's all there is to say about any current Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks and rumours right now. Expect a lot more to surface once the Genshin Impact 2.7 update is out and testers move on to the next big update, but for now, be sure to take everything about with a huge helping of salt.
