Warzone 2 players have asked for a brand-new map to act as an alternative to the hugely popular Al Mazrah. Typically, the second map is smaller than the main battleground and in Call of Duty’s latest battle royale, this is the case.

With attention turning towards the launch of Season Two, the next update includes the return of the 1v1 gulag in addition to a brand-new Resurgence map packed with new points of interest to explore.

There’s plenty riding on the success of the update and there are several members of the community hoping the arrival of Ashika Island manages to revive the game.

Can the new map spark a resurgence?

Following the reveal of the new Warzone 2 map, Reddit user ForgingMyOwnDestinyy hopes the new arena and the return of Resurgence ‘brings a lot of players back’ amid reports of the player count falling.

On the other hand, there are many that believe Ashika Island will provide a short-term boost before players start looking elsewhere for their battle royale fix. “They’ll check it out at release, realise the movement hasn’t changed at all, then stop playing again,” comments one fan.

The debut of a new map is all well and good but players believe other elements of the game need overhauling in order to improve the core mechanics of Warzone 2. “Until the movement and TTK is changed, the game isn’t going to get any better,” comments another frustrated fan.

Season Two contains a wealth of improvements to in-game mechanics, so there’s every chance these changes alongside a smaller map create faster pace players desperately want as an alternative to the usual dose of battle royale action on Al Mazrah. We’ll have to wait and see if the return of Resurgence manages to rekindle the magic of Rebirth Island.
