Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 couldn’t wait for the chance to start digging into Starfield.

Most of those who paid for early access to the game are now plenty of hours deep into their adventures through space, with lots of that time having been spent building a bunch of different spaceships, getting up to wacky hijinks, or downloading mods.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s full release of the game has seemingly seen a huge influx of new interstellar explorers blast off for the first time, leading it to surpass a pretty massive milestone, according to the CEO of Microsoft Gaming.

How many of the people you know are currently playing Starfield?

In a tweet, Xbox’s Phil Spencer has stated: “Starfield exceeded one million concurrent players across all platforms today.”

He went on to thank “all the players who helped us reach this great milestone” and congratulate Bethesda Game Studios on the achievement.

According to SteamDB, the game managed to amass a new all-time peak of just over 269k concurrent players on that platform alone at around 7 PM UTC yesterday evening, narrowly surpassing the previous highs achieved during its early access period.

Meanwhile, Spencer hasn’t been the only one lining up to congratulate Bethesda on releasing its latest title, with a number of social media accounts representing other studios and games having posted to acknowledge the passing of Starfield’s official release date.

These included Fallout New Vegas developer Obsidian Entertainment, which shared an Outer Worlds-themed message, complete with a version of Starfield’s key art edited to include characters from the game. The official Halo account went for a similar approach.

There were also messages from the accounts for Sea of Thieves and Dying Light, with the former including an amusing warning for hoarders. “To any pirates turning their attention to the stars, good luck on your intergalactic Voyage. Just remember, you don't have to steal everything you see, as tempting as it may be…” it read.

Regardless of whether you’re one of those who jumped into Starfield for the first time yesterday or have been playing it since September 1, make sure to follow us for lots of guides to its characters, mechanics, and quests.
