The Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to telling some excellent stories. Whether it’s the Modern Warfare or Black Ops series, there are plenty of characters that feature throughout. With 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 cycle in full swing, attention is already turning to the next chapter.

Season Two sees the arrival of Ashika Island, a brand-new Resurgence map for Warzone 2 and a new Ground War battleground for fans of multiplayer. Ahead of the update, Activision has shared additional insight on the new map.

Within the description, the publisher mentions the mid-1990s leading fans to suggest the map has a potential connection to Call of Duty’s 2024 release.

Is Ashika Island connected to CoD 2024?

Following the discovery, Reddit user Mathiasxd148 suggests the connection to the 1990s teases the setting for 2024’s Call of Duty release that’s expected to be a sequel to Black Ops Cold War.

As expected, members of the community were quick to speculate how a Call of Duty game set in the 1990s fits in with the current storyline involving Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and Vanguard. “I’m banking Al Asad (Hadir) has taken over Shadow Company or is a part of it,” thinks one user.

Call of Duty Zombies expert MrDalekJD takes things a step further, strengthening the connection between Ashika Island and CoD 2024. Dr. Peck from Cold War Zombies visits Japan and a cluster of islands within the Pacific ocean meaning there’s every chance the protagonist has already visited Ashika Island.

With CoD 2024 likely taking place in the 1990s and with a Black Ops and Modern Warfare crossover already there’s every chance Ashika Island receives a 90s makeover in the months leading up to Treyarch’s next release. As for Call of Duty 2023, it’s believed Infinity Ward will release paid content for Modern Warfare 2, resulting in the first Call of Duty title to have a two-year cycle.
