How To Pick The Best 1440p Monitor?

Picking the best 1440p monitor can be a bit tricky, but we've got some answers to some frequently asked questions which may give you a hand in making your choice.

Is 1440p worth it?

Absolutely, and we don't think that'll change for many years to come.

The key selling points of 1440p that make it so popular, especially with PC owners, is that they come in cheaper, have high refresh rates, and look brilliant when you pick the correct size.

They're also great for different types of games, from FPS to the more cinematic titles, securing them as one of the true all-rounders in the gaming monitor scene.

It's worth noting though, that PS5 can't support 1440p natively just yet. For that console, we'd recommend checking out our best PS5 monitor picks for some ideas.

Is 32" too small for 1440p?

That's one that'll be up for debate! It was once quite the popular opinion that 1440p was optimal at 27 inches, but 32" isn't a massive step up if you think about it.

For some added room to manoeuvre, we'd say it doesn't really do much harm.

Is 1440p really better than 1080p?

Yes, but 1080p is certainly decent when it's paired with a smaller screen and does generally present a more affordable option, especially for competitive players.

It's all about what's best for you. If you want more detail, 1440p it is, but if you want a high refresh rate for less, head over to the FHD camp.

Read More: 1080p vs 1440p: Which is better?

Is 2K the same as 1440p?

Yes, it is. Most 2K monitors have resolutions of 2560 x 1440p, which is shortened to either 2K or QHD.

It's a little confusing we'll admit, but it's actually a similar treatment to that of UHD and 4K.

We'd say if you want to double-check, take a glance at the resolution on the monitor's specs.

Is 1440p double 1080p?

Nearly. In fact, it has 78% more pixels than 1080p. To put that in perspective, 4K has four times the amount of pixels as 1080p.

In terms of pixel density, that's why we'd say don't go too massive for your 1440p display, but if you're going for 4K, then you can really up the size (as some of the best 4K TVs go to show).

Is 4K or 1440p better for gaming?

Of course, this is all down to personal preference, but the general consensus is that 1440p can actually provide a better gaming experience.

This is down to the idea that 1440p offers a handy middle ground on the fronts of both visual fidelity and higher refresh rates.

As things currently stand, there aren't any 4K monitors available with refresh rates higher than 144Hz, but that could be about to change with an exciting TCL 4K 240Hz monitor prototype.

On the other hand, 1440p monitors like those listed above can exceed this 144Hz benchmark without too much of a sacrifice in visual quality.
