The immensely fast rate of fire is the star of the show when it comes to analysing the MG 82. The fire rate does make it incredibly difficult to control this bulky LMG, meaning performance at longer distances is far from ideal.

As for the rest of the features, the damage output is extremely high, which does make this particular weapon incredibly versatile despite its many shortcomings. With limited mobility and movement speed thanks to the sheer size of the MG 82, it's best to hold a specific position and await any opponents that may wander into the crosshairs.

Thankfully, there are certain attachments that can improve levels of mobility so you don't have to spend the duration of a match patrolling the same area. But with so many to choose from, which are the best attachments for the MG82?

MG 82 Cold War Best Attachments

This MG 82 build provides the much-needed mobility improvements alongside some further increases to damage and a crisp optic to maintain focus on the intended target.

  • Optic: Quickdot LED
  • Muzzle: Infantry Compensator
  • Barrel: 17.1" Match Grade
  • Body: SOF Target Designator
  • Underbarrel: Bruiser Grip
  • Magazine: Fast Mag
  • Handle: Airborne Elastic Wrap
  • Stock: No Stock

In order to bring the MG 82 into contention as one of the best LMGs in Black Ops Cold War, eight attachments are a necessity. After spending several hours experimenting with different combinations, this is certainly the best.

The combination of underbarrel, handle, and stock provides those drastic improvements to mobility levels, making it much easier to navigate the map when armed with the LMG. The rest of the attachments selected capitalise on the deadly rate of fire, with the barrel offering an increase in effective damage range in order to make an impact in mid and long-range engagements.

Alternative Attachments

Some of the MG 82 attachments we selected may not suit your style of play and with so many to select, it's easy to find a viable replacement. If you prefer to play at a slower pace, avoiding the hectic action, replace the Quickdot LED with the Visiontech 2x for a slight increase in magnification that is ideal for those mid-range duels.

Are the mobility levels are a little too high for your liking? Switch the No Stock attachment for the Tactical Stock for a smaller increase that will still make a difference when the action intensifies.

Secondary Weapon

Despite the surprising versatility of the MG 82, selecting a secondary weapon that can dominate in close-quarters situations is essential if your focus is on topping the scoreboard at the end of a match. Here is what we recommend.

  • Hauer 77

This pump-action shotgun may look incapable but when standing inches next to an opponent, its incredible damage will often get you out of those sticky situations that could go either way. For a more in-depth look at the Hauer 77, click here.

Equipment

  • Lethal: Tomahawk
  • Tactical: Smoke Grenade

While this may look like an uncoventional set of Black Ops Cold War equipment, it can certainly lend a helping hand during a match. The Tomahawk is a great way to score a quick kill if you can react quickly enough while the Smoke Grenade can be used in a multitude of ways.

Use it as a piece of improvised cover in order to escape a potential fight that might not be winnable or use it to lay the foundations for a coordinated attack onto an objective.

Field Upgrade

  • SAM Turret

Airborne Scorestreaks regularly appear in the skies of a multiplayer match, which is why the SAM Turret makes an excellent addition to this loadout. With the MG 82 being difficult to control, place a turret in the open and let it do all the work for you.

Perks

  • Perk 1: Tactical Mask
  • Perk 2: Assassin
  • Perk 3: Ghost

This Perk selection will enable you to maintain focus on the action ahead of you as well as grant you the opportunity to score some of the Scorestreaks higher up the list.

Tactical Mask increases resistance to Flash and Stun Grenades while Assassin grants you a score bonus if you eliminate an opponent that is on a killstreak. Last and by no means least is Ghost. This Perk will keep your location concealed from any enemy Spy Planes that fly around during a match. With your location hidden, it's much easier to traverse the map.

Wildcard

To make the most out of the MG 82, we selected Gunfighter to maximise the customisation options available. With all eight attachments equipped, the LMG is much more enjoyable to use and is definitely up there with the best Black Ops Cold War LMGs.

Tips For Using the MG 82 In Cold War

In order to achieve the most success with the MG 82, utilise the incredible rate of fire to your advantage. Once you get used to the recoil of the LMG, it is very easy to chop through opposition in a matter of seconds.

When in the heat of battle and there's minimal time to react, firing from the hip is a sure-fire way of dealing some damage at the very least. More often than not, the hip-fire accuracy is surprisingly high, meaning the MG 82 does have a slender chance in close-range gunfights.
