Battlefield 2042 is Now Fully Cross-Gen

EA and Ripple Effect have announced that Battlefield 2042 will now be playable on current- and last-gen consoles.

While we knew that Battlefield 2042 would be coming to last-gen/current-gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, most gamers assumed that they would have to pick up the Battlefield 2042 Ultimate Edition so they can play the game on last-gen and next-gen systems.

Battlefield 2042 is Now Fully Cross-Gen

EA has changed its stance, letting players upgrade Battlefield 2042 from last-gen to next-gen, even if they pick up the Standard Edition of the game, which is great news for those that were planning to get this version of the shooter.

It remains to be seen if Battlefield 2042 will be a free cross-gen upgrade, as publishers have since added payment methods to upgrade from current-gen to next-gen, so if you’re picking up the Battlefield 2042 Standard Edition on PS4, you might have to pay extra to get the prettier PS5 version.

However, if you're planning on upgrading to next-gen when PS5 and Xbox Series X stocks increase, get the cross-gen bundle - it'll keep all your progress too.

Originally a controversial move, this is slowly becoming the norm as even first-party titles like Ghost of Tsushima require payment to upgrade to next-gen, making this the standard Battlefield 2042 cross-gen experience.

Still, the fact that players won’t have to pay too much for Battlefield 2042 cross-gen is a great move overall, and we can see fans doing this as they try to get their hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

Battlefield 2042 is coming to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on November 19.
