Battlefield 2042’s new mode is still a mystery following EA’s Future of FPS Spotlight, but we know a bit more about what to expect from the game when it releases this October.
The new mode from recently rebranded Ripple Effect Studios will include “fan-favorite” maps from throughout the series, but that’s all Ripple Effect general manager Christian Grass would say on the subject.
Well-known leaker Tom Henderson had a few more things to say, however.
He said the new mode could be called Battlehub and will feature remasters of these maps:
- Metro Locker
- Wake Island
- Siege of Shanghai
- Arica Harbor
- Caspian Border
Previously, Henderson said the Battlehub mode would be the “ultimate sandbox experience” and would release as a separate download.

EA Teases Two New Battlefield 2042 Modes
While he also said none of this information is confirmed - and, of course, it isn’t confirmed until EA and DICE make it official - it does fit with Ripple Effect’s role as an auxiliary studio working on something separate.
EA also teased Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone mode again, which is still mostly a mystery as well.
It’s some kind of battle royale mode, but not in the usual sense.
DICE’s Oskar Gabrielson said it’s a “high stakes squad based game mode with a lot of high tension. It's not your classic battle royale, it's a really contemporary mode.”
