As Hunters work toward their ideal builds with Gogma Artian Weapons and Armor Transcendence, Hunter Symbols remain a point of confusion among new players. How and where do you get them?
What are Hunter Symbols?
Hunter Symbols are crafting materials that serve as proof you’ve braved through the game’s toughest challenges. Crafting most of the game’s high-level gear requires Hunter Symbols, and they come in three types: Hunter Symbol I, II, and III.
How to Get Hunter Symbol III
Hunter Symbol III is obtained exclusively from 7 or 8-Star Tempered hunts, available through Investigations or standard S.O.S. quests. Non-Tempered monsters don’t drop Hunter Symbols.
Monsters that drop Hunter Symbol III are:
- Tempered Uth Duna
- Tempered Rey Dau
- Tempered Jin Dahaad
- Tempered Nu Udra
- Tempered Gore Magala
- Tempered Arkveld
- Tempered Mizutsune
- Tempered Lagiacrus
- Tempered Seregios
Don’t forget that only 7 or 8-Star Tempered monsters drop Hunter Symbol III. You can’t get Hunter Symbols from 9-Star monsters, as they exclusively drop Glowing Stones for Talismans, the game’s other endgame activity.
Alternatively, you can also take on the Event Quest, “Masterless Claws,” and slay a Guardian Ebony Odogaron. This guarantees a Hunter Symbol III as a reward.
How to Get Hunter Symbol II
Hunter Symbol II drops from 6-Star Tempered hunts found through Investigations or standard quests.
Monsters that drop Hunter Symbol II are:
- Tempered Ajarakan
- Tempered Blangoga
- Tempered Xu Wu
- Tempered Guardian Ebony Odogaron
- Tempered Guardian Fulgur Anjanath
- Tempered Doshaguma
- Tempered Guardian Doshaguma
- Tempered Rathalos
- Tempered Gravios
As always, keep in mind that only 6-Star Tempered monsters drop Hunter Symbol II. If you spot a 9-Star Rathalos, you won’t get one.
How to Get Hunter Symbol I
Hunter Symbol I is rewarded from 5-Star Tempered hunts. These are pretty easy to get, as some of the monsters are from low ranks, like Tempered Lala Barina, Tempered Balahara, and Tempered Quematrice.
If you’re still unsure which quests drop Hunter Symbols, simply check the Investigation rewards via the World Map before heading out.
