Monster Hunter Wilds has received a slew of negative reviews over the past few months, primarily due to performance issues and underwhelming content drops apart from the meaty Title Updates.

Now that Title Update 4 dropped, it brought a resurgence of old players giving its renewed endgame another try. The Gogmazios update saw a significant increase in player count, surpassing its daily average of 20,000 players. Now, Wilds is reportedly reaching between 90,000 and 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, and it’s partly thanks to the performance fixes, as well as the hunt for more powerful gear for meaningful customization.

Hunting monsters is made fun again in Monster Hunter Wilds. At launch, players primarily hunted for fun or to assemble simple builds. The base version of Artian Weapons, which was the original endgame grind, met with negative reviews due to its simplistic nature. Now, with Gogmazios’ hunt, Artian Weapons can be further enhanced, and players can reroll their stats and skills to find the optimal rolls they are looking for.

As a result, more and more players are hunting not just the Title Update 4 Elder Dragon, but the other 9-Star monsters that populate the Forbidden Lands. From the Leviathan Lagiacrus to Savage Omega Planetes, the purpose of hunting these monsters actually makes more sense now, as hunters needed their rare materials like Gems to find their ideal armor and weapon skills.

Armors are also granted a significant overhaul in customization, as players can Transcend them, increasing their defensive capabilities as long as they have the proper materials. This is why you mostly see more Hunters trying to take down a variety of 9-Star monsters like Rathalos, Seregios, and Mizutsune in SOS Hunts.

Even its difficulty has seen a considerable increase. Gone are the players who constantly complain about easy hunts and relying too much on wounding monsters. Now, they have to be constantly on their toes as these 9-Star hunts hit harder and have increased health. Standard weapons with barely any upgrades won’t make a dent, and one-shot attacks are much more common, causing hunters to cart left and right.

At the moment, Monster Hunter Wilds is in the best state it has ever been. Hunts are far more rewarding than they were at launch, while weapon and armor customization now feel more meaningful. More Hunters are returning to the game, planning their ideal builds and experimenting with a wider variety of tools at their disposal. Much of this progress can be attributed to Capcom’s ongoing efforts to listen to community feedback and address issues before they become long-term problems.

This sends a strong signal that its expansion content, which remains under wraps, could be something truly grand.
