Wizards of the Coast appears to be quietly building up a Monster Hunter collaboration for their beloved trading card game.

On their website, eagle-eyed fans on their respective subreddits noticed an unusual header that reads “Hunter Rank Required: ???.” Monster Hunter fans obviously recognize this reference to the game’s action RPG progression. It comes as a surprise, but it’s a welcome one, considering that many MTG fans have long hoped for a Monster Hunter collab after big video game IPs like Final Fantasy and Horizon Zero Dawn were already featured.

Hunter rank?

Magic: The Gathering and Secret Lair have always worked together to bring beloved IPs into limited edition sets that reimagine MTG’s default card selection. These are limited edition copies that are worth a ton of money, particularly for those who get valuable cards like God of War’s ‘Battle of Olympus’ or Final Fantasy’s ‘Golden Chocobos.’

This upcoming Monster Hunter collab suggests that Secret Lair and MTG have found a major interest in the franchise. Considering that it’s one of the most beloved video game IPs in the modern gaming era, it is an obvious pick for a crossover.

There are no cards revealed as of yet, but Monster Hunter and MTG fans are already hoping to see their favorite monsters make it to the selection. Creatures like Monster Hunter Iceborne’s Namielle or the fan-favorite Rathalos are some of their most anticipated cards. Maybe we would even get a selection of Monster Hunter Wilds’ apexes like the Nu Udra or Arkveld.

There is no official announcement yet, but it is likely that Capcom will reveal the collaboration during the Monster Hunter Showcase this early December, where they are expected to share new details about Free Title Update 4 featuring Gogmazios, along with updates on Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection.

This is the second major crossover the Capcom IP has had after an unexpected collaboration with Valve's Dota 2.

Could this truly be a Monster Hunter collaboration, or is it just a bait and switch? Hopefully, we will learn more in the coming weeks.
