Indie games and the Nintendo Switch are a match made in heaven. No other game might exemplify this better than Hades, and now, its sequel: Hades 2.
Releasing September 25 for PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) as well as Nintendo Switch 1 & 2 (with a free upgrade included), Hades 2 plays like a dream on Nintendo’s hybrid console. I’ve spent my review time period playing it on the Switch 2 in handheld mode after importing my Steam file via cross-save, and I don’t think I’ll boot it up on my PC for the foreseeable future.
Hades 2 Switch Performance Is Incredible
Hades 2 is available on both the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. During the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, we got confirmation that both versions would be running at 60FPS in handheld mode (and docked in the case of Switch 1), with the Switch 1 hitting a 720p resolution cap. Whereas the Switch 2 could hit up to 120FPS at a 1080p resolution while docked.
After playing dozens of hours on my Switch 2, I’m in love with how the LCD display really makes things pop. Everything looks so crisp and colorful. Hades 2 is a game with so many wildly different biomes, and every single one shines on this display. It may not be an OLED, but it’s the next best thing.
What’s even more impressive is that on Switch 2, there wasn’t a single time when I thought things looked particularly blurry or the framerate dipped. There are certain boss fights or encounter rooms that are filled with enemies, projectiles, and different types of VFX, all covering the screen. Not a single hitch or hiccup to be seen.
I dusted off my Switch Lite to test it out. While the 720p resolution is a bit of a turnoff and things look blurrier than on Switch 2, performance is still excellent. There are basically no major hiccups barring the occasional dip when things get too hectic.
So, if you were looking for an excuse to nab a Nintendo Switch 2 beyond Mario Kart World or playing games like Metroid Prime 4 or Pokemon Legends Z-A with enhanced performance, Hades 2 is that must-buy. At least until it eventually releases on PS5 and Xbox.
