- Quick Answer: To unlock a weapon in its base form in DMZ, players need to find the weapon manual in a match and extract with it.
The new Modern Warfare 4 DMZ mode is now available for everyone to enjoy before the full launch. Players who haven't experienced an extraction shooter before are in uncharted territory, as the mechanics differ from Multiplayer, including how to unlock weapons.
To help you understand more about the basics, here is a simple guide explaining how to unlock weapons in the mode.
How to Unlock Weapons in MW4 DMZ
There are multiple ways to get access to weapons in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. The first way to unlock a specific weapon in its base version is by finding the respective weapon manual. This is a lootable item players can find in a match.

After finding it, players would need to exfil with the manual in their inventory to unlock the weapon. This will allow them to purchase the weapon from the Gunsmith at the Forward Operating Base.
If the player then starts another match, brings their newly purchased weapon, and loses the weapon or fails to extract with it, they will need to purchase it from the Gunsmith to use it again.
A second way to get a weapon is to obtain one in a match, whether it's from an enemy, a teammate, a Lieutenant NPC, etc., and extract with it. The weapon stays in the player's inventory until they eventually lose it. After losing it, they won't be able to purchase it from the Gunsmith if they haven't obtained its manual.
As a side note, the Gunsmith is unlocked after reaching level 10, and players gain experience by dropping into matches and extracting successfully.
How Do Blueprints Work in MW4 DMZ
If you own a weapon blueprint, you can use it once for free. Once you lose it or fail to extract with it, the weapon gets lost. However, since you own the blueprint, the game lets you purchase it again at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at a discount.

Keep in mind that blueprints already have a set of attachments with them, meaning you can't customize them. If you wish to use the blueprint's gun with other attachments of your choosing, you will need to find the manual and extract it.
