- Quick Answer: Recent server crashes and technical problems are affecting Call of Duty's DMZ mode and the developer's response.
Dying in an extraction shooter is annoying; dying to technical problems is a hundred times more egregious. That’s been happening to Call of Duty players today, with constant tech issues plaguing DMZ, Modern Warfare 4’s extraction mode.
DMZ was released in early access this past October 20, with all players getting full access when Modern Warfare 4 officially launched on October 23. As stated, it’s a PvPvE extraction shooter that heavily relies on exploration for players to acquire high-tier loot. Losing everything is painful, but it is an expected part of the extraction shooter experience.

CharlieINTEL reported that hundreds of DMZ players were experiencing consistent server crashes that would boot them out of matches, causing them to lose their entire loadout and gear in the process.
As a result, MW4 developer Inifity Ward has been hard at work deploying fixes to improve stability in DMZ. The quick social media-shared patch notes read:
"We have released additional server-side changes to address recent reports of server disconnects."
Early impressions of DMZ have been mixed. The mode takes some time to introduce heavy PvP elements during its first few hours, leading many genre veterans to feel it’s a bit too slow-paced. Once it ramps up, however, it essentially turns into another high-stakes round of Call of Duty: Warzone.
Infinity Ward will have to do a lot of fine-tuning to make DMZ a compelling long-term mode, particularly as the studio decides whether to lean into a more welcoming environment for PvE enthusiasts or ramp up the PvP stakes for players craving constant firefights.
