Does PS4 Support Ultrawide? Know This Before Your Next Monitor Upgrade

Does PS4 Support ultrawide? It's a question you've likely asked yourself if you're on the hunt for any one of the excellent ultrawide monitors on the market today.

Many of us are still using PS4 for a couple of reasons. One, many of the games on PS5 also have their respective PS4 versions and two, getting a PS5 is still super difficult.

One way you can really breathe some new life into either your PS4 or PS4 Pro is by upgrading your display to something more gamer-orientated, and nothing does that better than some of the best gaming monitors.

But if you want to experience games in ultrawide, it's worth reading on as there are some things you'll want to factor in before making your decision.

Does PS4 Support ultrawide?

The official answer would be, no. But there's more to it than that.

Ultrawide ratio is typically classed as 21:9, while standard ratio comes in at 16:9. Both PS4 and PS5 do not support this ultrawide ratio, unfortunately, but there are some ways to get around it.

For PS4, with some monitors you should be able to use it, however, you will either have to stretch the image or play with black bars on either side.

Both of these options are not exactly great and don't do the game much justice.

Will PS4 Get Ultrawide Support?

The same question has been asked as to whether PS5 will get ultrawide support also, but in both cases, we think it's very unlikely, especially now as the PS4 is 'old-gen'.

The reason behind this could well be the fact that ultra-wide monitor users are the minority in the monitor market, making other adjustments and roll-outs more of a priority at this time.

For Sony's next-gen console, we're more likely to see the PS5 support 1440p resolution first, before going anywhere near ultrawide support.
