Rocket League's PS5 Update Brings 120Hz Support And Free Ratchet & Clank Items Tomorrow

Rocket League is getting a hefty update tomorrow for PS5 players. Though it's not a native PS5 port like we've previously heard about, this implements additional quality and performance modes for new-gen console owners. Alongside that, we've also got Ratchet & Clank inspired cosmetics, available at no charge.

To claim those skins, all you've got to do is log onto Rocket League before 3rd January 2022 and unsurprisingly, these are exclusive to PS4/PS5 players. That'll grant these items:

  • Ratchet & Clank Punk Decal for Octane
  • Negatron Collider Boost
  • Clank Balloon Topper
  • Ratchet Balloon Topper.

Rocket League's PS5 Update Brings 120Hz And Free Ratchet & Clank Items Tomorrow

Outlining this update on the PlayStation Blog, Psyonix's product & content strategy director Jeremy Dunham confirmed:

We’re big fans of Ratchet & Clank here at Psyonix and it’s one of PlayStation’s most iconic franchises. That’s why teaming up with Insomniac to make cool content for the PlayStation community was both a thrill and a privilege to work on!

As for those new gameplay modes, Quality mode runs at 4K resolution, 60 frames-per-second and HDR. Performance mode drops resolution to 2688x1512 resolution (70% of 4K), retains HDR but instead runs at 120 frames-per-second, placing it on par with the Xbox Series X edition. However, you'll need a TV capable of outputting 120Hz and a HDMI 2.1 cable, so be aware of that before utilising it.

Finally, Sony also revealed a new PlayStation Plus pack is coming on August 24 for Rocket League. For PS Plus subscribers, that means you can claim the Goop GE Animated Decal, Hard Hat GE Topper, Magmus GE Boost, and Reaper GE Wheels at no extra charge.
