Resident Evil 8 Village will be the next instalment in the historic franchise, and it's planning to take some big creative risks.
We'd argue that Capcom has earned that right, however, with both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 receiving excellent remakes in recent years.
Here's everything we know about the next-gen survival horror title.
Resident Evil 9 Already In Development? - 5th March
Ok, so it's not Resident Evil: Village news, but longtime leaker Dusk Golem noted "there was a period of time that [Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil Outrage, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil 9] were all in development at the exact same time (late 2018)."
They also added that Resident Evil 9 is so far away that "it's actually not worth even talking about right now" and unlikely to launch before 2024.
Resident Evil 4 Influence - 15 February
“We wanted to continue to have players experience the game through the eyes of protagonist Ethan Winters. This is a continuation of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard after all,” Fabiano explained.
“This really helped to keep our vision on target. And since we are constantly sharing information across Resident Evil teams, that really helped inform us in making what we consider the best survival horror game to date.”
“You’ll notice we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. The team has put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel,” he said. “There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving.”
What Is It?
Resident Evil has primarily been about zombies and the shadowy Umbrella Corporation, but Resident Evil 7 sidestepped that narrative for the most part – and Resident Evil: Village will do the same.
Looking to return to the first-person view, it'll feature werewolves and all sorts of other ghouls - a big departure.
Still, it will take plenty of cues from Resident Evil 4 – notably the village setting, but perhaps even more.
“You’ll notice we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4. The team has put a ton of effort into creating a truly authentic feel,” Peter Fabiano, the game's producer said to Official PlayStation Magazine.
“There are plenty of surprises to keep you on your toes; players will find a balance of combat, exploration, and puzzle-solving.”
Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil Village is going to release on May 7th, 2021!

The game will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series S/X and PC, but also to last-gen platforms.
That means if you're holding onto your PS4 or Xbox One, you'll still be able to be scared silly when the game launches.
Trailer and Gameplay
A neat aspect that will be featured within Resident Evil Village is AMD's ray-tracing feature that is useable within its new line of video cards.
This will drastically enhance your graphics, and if you are lucky enough to own an AMD card that supports ray-tracing we are envious of you to say the least!
