A huge new update for Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG Starfield will add new ways for players to traverse its vast, maybe too vast, universe.

Following a minor update to the game, Bethesda revealed that a major update will remedy numerous parts of the controversial game. With fans claiming the game’s exploration is rather boring, Bethesda is seemingly adding new ways for fans to explore.

Explained in a Reddit post, Bethesda said: “We’re also hard at work on many of new features you asked for, from city maps, to mod support, to all new ways of traveling (stay tuned!).”

Bethesda revealed that small hotfixes for the game will come as they’re ready, but major updates, such as city maps and mod support, will be released over six week cadences to keep the game fresh.

“These will be rolling out with a regular cadence of fixes and updates we expect to have roughly every six weeks,” Bethesda explained.

Alongside the addition of major new features, Bethesda revealed that fixes for technical issues will also be massively improved. However, the studio has been working hard on a system that will fix these issues without requiring users to start their games over, allowing current save data to roll into new updates.

“Expect an update early next year that will include a large number of ‘in-progress’ quest fixes as well as FSR3 and XeSS,” Bethesda revealed. “Though we fixed several quest issues from occurring, in-progress quest fixes are much harder to fix and we’ve built a new system to correct those without you having to roll back your save.”

With a game as wide and vast as Starfield, Bethesda has made sure to extensively QA test its bug fixes and updates to make sure fans’ saves aren’t broken after hundreds of hours of gameplay. While this has meant that updates are taking longer than expected, it’s also great that players won’t have to restart the game.

Nevertheless, Starfield has proven a disappointment for many, especially following the success of Skyrim and Fallout 4. With modders currently feeling abandoned and some of its biggest modders leaving their massive projects behind.

While Starfield is a good game with an engaging universe, some of its systems do feel at odds with one another. It may be Bethesda’s worst game yet, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad, in fact it’s still quite good, but it’s more of an acquired taste than before.

Starfield is available right now on Xbox Series and PC, as well as via Xbox Cloud Game with Xbox Game Pass.
