The creator behind the popular Skyrim Together mod has announced they’re giving up work on a similar multiplayer mod for Bethesda's latest sci-fi RPG, Starfield, as they don't think the game is good enough.

Despite having started work on developing a version of Starfield Together, developer Cosideci has abandoned the project, describing Starfield as "trash". In an announcement to the Skyrim Together Discord server, Cosideci told the story of how they actually began working on Starfield Together as soon as Starfield was released earlier this year, without actually playing the game itself.

However, after several days of work on developing Starfield Together, Cosideci finally tried the game itself out, and they were far from happy with what they experienced. Similar to other players who had set expectations high for Bethesda’s Starfield, Cosideci found the game to be “bland” and “boring”, with the use of procedural generation taking away a huge amount of appeal of exploration.

Following this realisation, the developer has ditched the Starfield Together mod entirely; “I’m not [going to] put my heart and soul into a mod for a game as mediocre as this”, they stated in their announcement. The news has come as a crushing blow to Starfield players, many of whom had been keeping an eye out for a multiplayer mod for the game.

There may still be hope for the future of Starfield Together. The developer also stated that they'd be releasing the work they'd done so far on Starfield Together as open source, meaning another modder in the community may pick up the work on bringing Starfield Together to life.

Don't expect to see Starfield Together any time soon though, as the developer put their estimate of completing the work on the mod as over 100 hours of work, and that the current version of the mod isn't playable. With some of the community's modders feeling abandoned by Bethesda, the future of Starfield modding looks pretty bleak.
