Breakdown

  • An insider has claims that Sony gave up on Saber's Star Wars KOTOR remake
  • Sony won't be publishing the game anymore, which presumably means it won't be a PS5 exclusive
  • Saber are still working hard on this remake

The Star Wars KOTOR remake feels like it's been cursed, going through numerous development changes and even having its trailer delisted on PlayStation’s channels. An insider is now claiming that Sony wants nothing to do with the upcoming remake, which is why they might not be publishing it anymore.

On Twitter, Jeff Grub was asked about the production hell of Saber Interactive’s KOTOR remake, revealing that Sony doesn’t want it to be an exclusive anymore. While the game will likely come out on PlayStation 5, assuming it even comes out, Sony and PlayStation won’t be backing it anymore.

Despite some of the negativity, Grubb has faith that Saber Interactive will do something good with the Star Wars KOTOR remake. Saber has said that the remake is alive and well, managing to keep the game after separating from Embracer, so all we can do is hope for quality.

“My understanding is that Sony wants nothing to do with it anymore, which is why I thought it was dead,” Grubb tweeted. “Obviously, though, Saber still seems very determined. And I have a lot of trust in Saber.”

Announced back in 2019, the Star Wars KOTOR remake received a lot of attention, as many often hail the original Bioware RPG as one of the franchise’s best games. Since the game is a bit old and dated now, a remake could reignite interest in the franchise and maybe even lead to more installments. Unfortunately, a lot of things went wrong during production, and there were only a couple of devs working on the remake at one point.

Now that Saber Interactive has left Embracer, it seems that the company is hard at work on this remake. Hopefully, some of the hurdles the devs were facing have disappeared and we get proof that this remake is coming out. Only time will tell.

The Star Wars KOTOR remake was supposed to be a PS5 exclusive, but it seems that’s no longer the case. Fans can still pick up the original KOTOR on PC, mobile, and Nintendo Switch.
