Breakdown

  • Sea of Thieves is dominating PS5 pre-orders in the US and UK
  • This goes to show that Microsoft is onto something bringing their games to other systems
  • The Sea of Thieves brand has truly grown after a lackluster launch

Sea of Thieves is one of the Xbox properties coming to PlayStation soon and fans are pretty excited to get their hands on the multiplayer pirate game. It turns out that they were more excited than most expected, as the Xbox IP has topped pre-orders on the PlayStation Network.

Benji-Sales on Twitter confirmed that the Premium Edition of this Xbox multiplayer game is currently the #1 pre-order in the United States. The standard edition of this game has also made it to the top five, showing just how excited PlayStation fans are to try this out.

As if that wasn’t fascinating enough, VGC has also confirmed that Sea of Thieves: Premium Edition is also the #1 pre-order in the UK. While this might not be the best news for Xbox fans worried about losing their exclusives, it does show that Microsoft was onto something with this decision.

Rare’s multiplayer pirate game isn’t the only Xbox IP coming to other systems. Both Grounded and Pentiment were announced during the most recent Nintendo Partner Direct. Hi-Fi Rush was then announced for PS5, with rumours claiming that it will also come to Switch 2 next year.

This isn’t the only time we’ve seen Xbox bring their games to other systems. Cuphead made a big splash on both Nintendo Switch and PS4, remaining a fan-favorite in both systems. Xbox also brought the Ori games to Nintendo Switch, both of which got positive reviews at launch.

Originally launching to little fanfare, Sea of Thieves was able to turn the tide thanks to consistent updates, new events, and being on Game Pass. There was a time when many accredited this game’s long-term support to Game Pass since it’s automatically part of anyone’s subscription. However, the PS5 sales show that fans are willing to shell out some cash to try out a brand-new multiplayer experience.
