The recent reveal of Pokemon Legends Z-A was the most exciting moment of the latest Pokemon Presents presentation, but fans have just found out one key detail about the new game. It takes place entirely in one city.

With Pokemon Legends: Arceus and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet both offering entire open worlds of multiple biomes, scalable mountains and treacherous caves, many expected the next Legends game to follow the same trend.

Instead, the return to the Kalos region last seen in Pokemon X and Y is set entirely within the newly revamped Luminose City. Massively expanded over its dinky 3DS counterpart, this city will be the sole location of the next Pokemon game.

In a tweet by Nintendo of America, it was confirmed that the game will not take place in the entirety of Kalos, but just the one city.

“Watch to see the reveal trailer for Pokemon Legends Z-A, a new adventure set entirely within Lumiose City, coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025,” the tweet reads.

Over the past few years, Game Freak has experimented more and more with the Pokemon series, and Legends Z-A appears to be another bold take on the series. With mega evolutions also returning, this could be a very interesting addition to the long-running franchise.

Of course, some fans have been disappointed at the lack of other announcements during the presentation. While the presentation did feature a heavy Johto theme, there was no mention of the rumoured Pokemon Let’s Go Johto games, or even the Pokemon Black and White remakes.

However, fans of the series at large did get some new Pokemon Go content as well as a brand new Pokemon TCG Pocket mobile app. Amidst everything, one thing was clear: Game Freak is taking extra care to give Pokemon games some extra time in the oven for once.

Pokemon Legends Z-A releases on Nintendo Switch, and maybe Nintendo Switch 2, sometime in 2025.
