Things are looking up for Borderlands developer Gearbox Software, as Embracer Group will be selling the company to someone else. An official announcement for the sale will supposedly be made this month, so the future of this company is very interesting, to say the least.

Kotaku reported that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford told his employees about the future of this company, which was almost in question. Pitchford did say that they would either stay with Embracer, sell to someone else, or become independent, with the second option being the likely outcome.

While a deal hasn’t officially been revealed, the company is reportedly in the late stages and an announcement will be made sometime this month. Considering just how big the company has gotten in recent years, it will be interesting to see which publisher ends up nabbing them.

Now that company layoffs are becoming a thing again, it is interesting to see devs choose to leave Embracer for better ventures. Saber Interactive was bought by a private company and will continue to work on the often-delayed Star Wars: KOTOR remake. Toys for Bob also did something similar, leaving Activision Blizzard and becoming an independent company after making Crash Bandicoot 4.

Gearbox Software has been on top of the world recently, with Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands proving to be solid games for the company. The trailer to the Borderlands movie was also received positively, though fans should temper their expectations since this is a video game film.

Making the company’s future even more interesting is that Randy Pitchford essentially confirmed the existence of Borderlands 4 not too long ago. Pitchford was asked about his favorite game in the franchise, with the CEO saying the next game is the best thing the company has ever made. That best game won’t be published by Embracer, that’s for sure.
