Monster Hunter Stories 2: How to Get Vital Essence
To get Vital Essence in Monster Hunter Stories 2 you will need to head to Lulucion. This is the 4th main hub area in the game, a village surrounded by the Lamure Desert, Open the map and head around to the Layered Armour Vendor. There's a platform behind them where a felyne NPC is standing. You can pick up the 'A Test of Purr-severance' subquest from them, which will task you with killing 5 Hermitaur in exchange for Vital Essence and the recipe to make them.
Hermitaur are small crab monsters that can be found in the area just as you exit the village. Look for the patch of water to the right of where you leave, kill 5 of them, and head back to the NPC to redeem the quest and get your Vital Essence.
Vital Essence Recipe
By completing the 'A Test of Purr-severance' quest you'll get the Essence Vitale recipe, allowing you to craft Vital Essence from the following resources:
- 5 x Raw Meat
- 3 x Toadstool
- 3 x Girthy Garlic
It's worth noting that you can only complete the quest once, so it cannot be farmed. Unlocking the recipe will allow you to farm the resources required for making Vita Essence however.
What Is Vital Essence Used For
Vital Essence is used to replenish Life Hearts in and out of battle. This becomes extremely important in the game's later fights, given that powerful monsters will often hit you hard and often, clearing through hearts quickly.
