Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives you the chance to create, design, explore and run your own island paradise. As Resident Representative, you can customize your island in many ways to make it your own. From visiting other islands to bringing back food and other items to your own island to filling up your museum with fossils, the possibilities in New Horizons are just about endless to a player with a big enough imagination.

However, some players have wondered about the opportunity of expanding their island to fit some of their imaginative ideas within the bounds of the game. After all, having a second or third island would give players much more freedom to do whatever they wanted in New Horizons. So, it begs the question, can players have more than a single island?

We answer that question in the guide below.

Having more than one island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

As much as it would be a dream to have multiple islands with various themes, this sadly isn't a possibility in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Each Nintendo Switch system is limited to just one island. This applies across the entire Switch device, not just your user profiles.

When logging in across multiple profiles, you can still only access one island on your device. Players using other profiles will be able to build their own homes but will not be able to have their own islands. The only way to access multiple islands is by having friends with their own Animal Crossing: New Horizon's island for you to go and visit.

Despite some frustration from players regarding this limitation, at the time of writing, Nintendo has not indicated that the option for multiple islands will be added. None of the prior games in the Animal Crossing series has allowed for multiple islands, so it is doubtful that this will ever be an option in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
