#FreeMvC2 Trends as Marvel Vs Capcom 2 fans campaign for 2021 console re-release

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 fans are now looking forward to push for another re-release of this title on the latest consoles. If successful, this fighting game classic will be remastered for its second generation. Here's what we know about this movement

#FreeMVC2

As seen from one of his recent videos, known fighting game Youtuber Maximillian Dood has pushed the #FreeMVC2 movement which asks to help put the game again on latest consoles after a long time. So far, many fans and even Marvel Vs Capcom 2's remaster development team, Digital Eclipse, is open to execute the idea again. However, Digital Eclipse's Mike Mika admits that the key figures of the fighting game community must work together if they want this to truly happen.

Previously, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation. However, the game was pulled off the online stores in 2013 after the expiry of the license for the characters included in the game. For players who want to play this classic, they'll have to find a PS3 or Xbox 360 who has it installed or a mint copy of the game and the earlier consoles it was available on.

Character Licensing

To achieve this, the Fighting Game Community and its heads who want this project to happen must appeal to the game's original developers and Disney who owns most of Marvel intellectual properties.

Most of the characters of Marvel Vs Capcom 2 were X-men characters who were owned by Fox at the time. However, Disney now owns Marvel and Fox that makes them a prime part of making #FreeMVC2 happen.

On the other hand, Capcom isn't looking to release yet another Marvel Vs Capcom title anytime soon. The developers publicly dropped support for Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite and is considered to have ended badly for the developers.

Nevertheless, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 remains as a popular title for many fighting game fans. Before the major international tournament EVO was cancelled in 2020, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 almost made a return as it was confirmed as one of the main games for that year. However, the game has not made a comeback this EVO 2021.

We'll have to follow how this movement will go and if Disney and Capcom are up for this potential project to happen.
