Best Builds For Vex: The Gloomy Mage in LOL (Pre-Release PBE Edition)

Riot Games has confirmed that Vex: The Gloomy Mage, LOL's next champion will be released with update 11.19. Given that the 11.19 update cycle has already started on the LOL PBE Server, players have already started playing with the new champion before its arrival in the main client.

Given that Vex is a mid-lane control mage, the champion is capable of disabling and crowd-controlling champions who are equipped with dash-like abilities. On top of that, Vex is also capable of dealing massive bursts of magic damage to swing team fights in her favor.

With less than a week to go until Vex's release in the LOL main client, let's dive in and take a look at the best possible build for the champion in the mid-lane.

Rune Path for Vex

Being a mage, Vex's primary rune focus will definitely be on Sorcery. For her secondary rune path, Vex players are advised to select the Inspiration path. This combination will allow Vex to not only deal more magic damage to her enemies but also enable her to sustain in adverse scenarios.

Sorcery

  • Phase Rush
  • Manaflow Band
  • Transcendence
  • Scorch

Inspiration

  • Biscuit Delivery
  • Time Warp
  • Tonic

Additional Stats

  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • +9 Adaptive Force
  • +6 Armor

Item Build for Vex

Considering Vex's abilities in LOL, it is advised that players test out various item builds before fixating on a single one. However, here's a rough guideline on which items can be useful for the mid-lane mage on the Rift.

Early Game

  • Health Potion
  • Doran's Ring
  • Lost Chapter
  • Boots

Mid Game

  • Luden's Tempest
  • Sorcerer's Shoes
  • Zhonya's Hourglass

Late Game

  • Morellonomicon
  • Rabadon's Deathcap
  • Void Staff

These items massively increase the damage dealt by Vex's abilities in LOL. Additionally, these items also allow the champion to sustain herself during the laning stage.

Ability Build for Vex

Being a mage, Vex relies heavily on her ability to cast spells. Having said that, it is highly recommended that players unlock all three of Vex's primary abilities as soon as they can, i.e. by the time they reach level 3 on the champion.

Once all the three primary abilities have been unlocked, it is recommended that players prioritize the Mistral Bolt ability to trade HP effectively in the lane. After the Mistral Bolt ability has been maxed out, players should focus on upgrading Looming Darkness as it will allow Vex to catch fleeing enemies.

Finally, Personal Space is an extremely efficient team fight ability that allows Vex to gain a shield while dealing damage to all nearby enemies. Apart from the three primary abilities, players are advised to upgrade their Shadow Surge ultimate ability whenever an upgrade point is available for the same.
