When is the Fortnite update 22.20 release date and time?

The Fortnite update 22.20 released on October 18, 2022. Epic Games didn't announce the update beforehand, instead inducing the required downtime to allow all the new content to be added.

However, the 22.20 release date didn't come as a surprise to fans. That's because mid-season Fortnite updates tend to land every two weeks. Fittingly, the 22.10 update dropped on October 4, so it made sense to assume this was when we'll see 22.20.

In terms of a release time, Fortnite updates often land at 4am ET/9am BST, so early birds can go ahead and download it before the servers go back up.

What is in the Fortnite update 22.20?

As mentioned, the key addition in the Fortnite 22.20 update is the Fortnitemares event. One of the seasonal events seen throughout the annual calendar, this time around, it's packed with content.

The key addition is the Howler Claws, a special weapon that lets your Fortnite character briefly become a werewolf. You have to perform specific in-game tasks to earn them, but doing so lets you tear up the island in beastly form.

Of course, there's also plenty of other new content. Look out for more quests, a returning mode called Horde Rush, and new weapons in rotation. Alongside plenty of returning Item Shop entries such as the Rick and Morty skins, and it's another packed update.

How do I download Fortnite update 22.20?

Fortunately, you won't have to do anything special to download the Fortnite 22.20 update. Once it has released, all you've got to do is boot up the game and wait for the new version to install upon startup.

The servers don't go live instantly after an update, so expect a few hours of downtime while Epic tweaks things behind the scenes. Once it goes back live, you'll be able to check out all the new changes found within.
