Wondering when the Destiny 2 Lightfall preload time is and how big the download will be, keep reading. The newest expansion for Destiny 2, Lightfall is right around the corner, and it's time to talk preloads. As with past expansions, we expect to be able to download the major contents of Lightfall ahead of launch so that we can get right into the action the moment it launches.

Lightfall is slated to bring an incredible new story campaign, a ton of brand new quality-of-life features, and of course, juicy loot to grab. You'll definitely want to make sure that you're preloaded so that you can jump straight into the log in queues when the expansion goes live.

When is the Destiny 2 Lightfall preload time?

  • 9:00 AM PST
  • 12:00 PM EST
  • 5:00 PM GMT

Destiny 2 Lightfall releases on February 28, 2023. According to Bungie on the February 16 TWAB, Destiny 2 will go offline at 9AM PST (5 PM GMT) on February 27, 2023 for a 24-hour downtime to prepare for Lightfall launch.

Once that downtime begins, players will be able to preload Lightfall to their platform of choice.

Destiny 2 will come back up online at the following times on February 28, 2023, at which time, players will be able to log into the queues to get into the game.

How big is Destiny 2 Lightfall preload download?

According to Bungie in the same TWAB, the preload size is large. While we don't have exact sizes, we do know that Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 players will need to have an additional 80 GB of space available on their console for additional installation packages.

Old files will be removed once Lightfall launches, but during the downtime all of that data will need to be on consoles.

For PC and Xbox, we also don't have file sizes exactly. That being said across the board, Bungie states that this new installation will reduce load times and reduce disk space usage overall once Lightfall launches. We'd probably expect something around the 40 GB mark for the expansion, but have a bit of extra space available just in case.
