As expected, those at the top of the list are going to perform best, most likely to net you a win - especially if you're a newcomer. Most fighters in the game are generally useable, so it's definitely worth testing the lot out to see which ones click with you.

Who is the best fighter in Guilty Gear Strive?

As per our tier list, the best fighter in Guilty Gear Strive is Ky. It's no surprise though, because he has comfortably the best moveset in the game.

His best move is probably the Dust attack, which can be performed with either charged or uncharged variants. The Uncharged Dust is an overhead slash attack that does an instant 45 damage. The charged variant is more powerful, where Ky kicks his opponent up into the air, either letting you perform a mid-air combo or finishing attack. As you can imagine, it's fairly powerful.

Of course, there are several other fighters also worth considering in Guilty Gear Strive. May is another solid choice, with this balanced character boasting a big animalistic companion who can deal some passive damage to boot.

As we said, any of the fighters in the S and A tiers are definitely worth trying if you're a newcomer. Give them a go and see which one suits your style, and you'll start winning battles in no time!

Some of the DLC characters are worth a go as well, for the following reasons:

  • Goldlewis Dickinson - Slow but solid juggernaut that suffers on the defensive but has a suffocating offence filled with disjointed attacks, guard breaks, and high damage. (Notable players: Gobou)
  • Jack-O' - Tricky pet-based fighter that controls the match when her Servants are out. Servants can cover her offence and stifle her opponent's advances if used well. Struggles on defence due to lacking strong meterless reversal options. (Notable players: LostSoul, Kazunoko, Purepure, SonicFox)
  • Happy Chaos - Versatile character that can play effective zoning and heavy rushdown if his shooting resources are well maintained. While he can attack from close and far, his lack of invulnerable options leaves his defence and shutting down momentum steals severely lacking. (Notable players: Gobou, Kazunoko, SonicFox)

How do I select a fighter in Guilty Gear Strive?

Fortunately, it's nice and easy to select your fighter of choice in Guilty Gear Strive.

When you first go into a fight, whether online or offline, the character select screen comes up. That's par for the course with fighting games, with a full collage of each character for you to pick.

One thing to note is that not every single character in Guilty Gear Strive is available at launch. A good number of fighters are only accessible by purchasing DLC. These are as follows:

  • Goldlewis
  • Jack-O'
  • Happy Chaos
  • Baiken
  • Testament
  • Bridget

If you want those fighters, you'll have to buy the two season passes in Guilty Gear Strive. Of course that isn't compulsory, as there are plenty of strong choices in the base game for you to use.

Who is the latest fighter to release in Guilty Gear Strive?

The newest fighter in Guilty Gear Strive, at the time of writing, is Bridget. She was first teased as a DLC character in August 2022, added as the first new addition in the second season pass.

With this second season only having launched in the summer of 2022, there's a good chance that even more characters will be added to Guilty Gear Strive in the near future. Keep a close eye on our tier list, because we'll update our rankings as soon as new fighters pop up!
