Trees in Stardew Valley
A few different types of trees can be commonly found in Stardew Valley both around town and on your farm. All of them can be foraged using the same few methods, but the produce and materials they offer can differ.

How to craft a tapper in Stardew Valley

Two different types of Tapper, the standard Tapper and Heavy Tapper, can be crafted and attached to fully-grown trees. Just have the item in the active hotbar slot and swing to place it on a tree.
You can craft a tapper after reaching Foraging Level 3 by using 40 Wood and 2 Copper Bars.
In order to craft Heavy Tappers, players need to obtain the recipe from Qi's Walnut Room on Ginger Island. Each Heavy Tapper requires 30 Hardwood and one Radioactive Bar to produce.
Tappers extract a resource specific to each type of tree on set schedules dictated by the type of tree, with Heavy Tappers reducing this time by half but not affecting the type of material it produces from each tree.

You can reuse a Tapper attached to a tree by hitting it with any non-explosive weapon to knock it loose. Once it pops away from the tree, you can pick it back up where it will be stored in your inventory, and from here, you can reattach it to any tree. Be warned, however, because if you dislodge a tapper halfway through its cycle you won't be bestowed with the syrup, tar, or resin it was brewing.
