There are few certainties in the chaotic world of GTA Online, but English Dave calling you at the most inopportune times is one of them.

No matter whether you’re locked in an intense battle with a griefer, racing your supercar through the streets or just trying to have some innocent fun with friends, Dave is always seemingly waiting to ring you and ask you to run an errand for someone.

This has made him a bit of a meme among players, many of whom don’t care too much for the bloke. However, it seems this isn’t universal, with one player on Reddit recently calling for the ability to save Dave from a ghastly fate.

GTA Players Have Love/Hate Relationship With Notorious Cold Caller

This is the topic of a recent thread in the GTA Online subreddit, which began with user William_McLane posting an image of poor English Dave in a prison cell, captioning it: “petition to be able to save English Dave during the Cayo Perico Heist.”

A few users shared a similar positive sentiment towards Dave, with TheGrateKhan saying: “the most valuable heist target of all, friendship” and RB26DETT-N1 referencing everyone’s favourite mumble-growling Fast and Furious film character by adding: “one small step away from something even more valuable… family”.

However, the Dave love was hardly universal, with user Kermit_El_Froggo_ proposing: “counteroffer, petition to be able to murder the (heck) out of English Dave” and doesnotlikecricket adding: “I'd put more locks on his cage if I could.”

Other users seemed to sit on the fence on the Dave issue, with FrankWDoom arguing: “It would be tough from a continuity standpoint if Dave dies somehow, but still, if I pick up the keys from the guard I should be able to open the cages. Really, I want to let the panther loose on the guards. (El) Rubio can get another panther.”

Meanwhile, a discussion raged over Dave’s aforementioned cold calls, with user Anyaele225 calling for a “petition to end his calls”.

Several other users pointed out that there are ways to make the calls stop, with GrapefruitSpecific32 providing the PSA: “Hey guys and gals, it's easy to skip Dave's Calls, press (the) start button (controller) then exit (the) menu and poof he's gone in an instant.”
