Ghost Of Tsushima Legends Receives Standalone Release, Announces New Rivals Mode, And More

Senior Game Designer at Sucker Punch Productions, Darren Bridges has announced that a new game mode called Rivals, will be making its way to Legends.

Sony and Sucker Punch have also released a trailer revealing the new mode:

Rivals acts as a co-op/PvP hybrid, where two teams will compete against each other as they face onslaughts of enemies. For every foe defeated, samurai will gain Magatama which can be used to impend the other team's progress like Shades (to stop opponents' purchases) and Curses, one of which can drain their health.

Legends' progression system is also being upgraded with the addition of a Gear Mastery system. The updated structure will ease the purchase of abilities and slots:

Players who’ve earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate “Mastery Challenges.” This will allow a piece of gear’s Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class.

Various changes will be added through an update on August 20th, which is also the release date of the Director's Cut. These include shortened session lengths for Survival Mode while new weekly Survival Nightmare variants will be added. Costumes unlocked from Jin's story and New Game+ can also be transferred and worn in Legends with this patch.

From September 10th till October 1st, new content will be added to Legends weekly, which includes:

An additional Rivals map, new Survival maps inspired by Iki Island and Iyo’s realm, and Trials of Iyo, a new harder-difficulty version of last year’s Raid that offers challenges in bite-sized chunks, and offers a new set of online leaderboards.
