What Is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, or KOTOR, was an RPG developed by Bioware for the original Xbox.

Created by many of the team that would go on to make the Mass Effect trilogy, the game was set 4,000 years before the formation of the Empire and was focused on a Sith known as Darth Malak.

The sequel, the imaginatively titled Knights of the Old Republic 2, was developed by Obsidian Entertainment and released just a year after the first game.

According to reports, the remake will drop the combat system of the original in favour of a more action-oriented approach.

Knights of the Old Republic Release Date

Woah there, Padawan.

The game is likely some way away, although sources have confirmed that it's in development.

Bespin Bulletin, a Star Wars insider, had the following to say (thanks, VGC):

"Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere"

“I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that Jason Schreier said that it’s not with EA, and we’ll ‘never guess’ who the studio is that’s making this game.”

Knights of the Old Republic Developer

Reddit user u/ContributorX_PJ64 has posted the following information which has alluded to a new fact that Aspyr Media could be the developer behind the Knights of The Old Republic remake.

Aspyr Media (handles all Star Wars porting/remastering) is making a AAA RPG, and is on an ex-Bioware hiring spree. They may be the mystery KOTOR studio.

This looks to have been confirmed somewhat by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier on Resetera.

Knights of the Old Republic Platforms

Expect the game to target the latest generation of consoles and PC.
