Helldivers 2 might be focused on multiplayer but the game has been praised for not forcing microtransactions on people who just want to have fun. It seems that the game’s devs are pro-consumer, as they have slammed other companies who constantly shove paid DLC down fans’ throats.

On Twitter, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt responded to a fan who thanked them for making microtransactions in the sequel shooter fair and honest. Pilestedt said that microtransactions have to be earned, while also saying that Arrowhead will never force fans to pay for their enjoyment.

"You have to earn the right to monetize" - I truly believe that. If people want to support this title they have an option, but we are never forcing anyone to do so,” Pilestedt said to a fan.

Despite Pilestedt’s comments, Helldivers 2 does have quite a bit of DLC, though it’s not forced on players as it would be in other games. The shooter also has a Battle Pass but none of its rewards are stuck in a paywall, as players can purchase them by simply playing the game. Although players can still choose to buy them, it’s good that gamers can earn them by just having fun.

Fans have seen how greedy companies can be with their games, especially live-service titles with a focus on multiplayer. We’ve already seen gamers annoyed at Square Enix’s Foamstars, which has some of the most expensive DLC in any game. Ubisoft is also charging $70 for their upcoming Skull and Bones, which is $30 more than Helldivers 2.

Microtransactions aside, Helldivers 2 has been praised by many, as it’s already being played by a ton of Steam and PlayStation players. It’s already one of the more popular PlayStation games on PC, thanks to its strong focus on multiplayer and the first game also available on the platform.
