Skull and Bones is finally coming out this week, with many fans surprised that Ubisoft would charge $70 for a multiplayer-only pirate romp. While Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot claims this is a “quadruple-A” game worth the price, those playing the beta disagree wholeheartedly.

On the game’s subreddit, user walkingdead1282 said that the game is “fine” but doesn’t feel that it’s worth that nasty $70 price tag. Although the user said gameplay is fine, they feel that your immersion can easily be broken by players running around the hub or flags not blowing in the same direction as the wind.

Despite some commenters attempting to defend Skull and Bones, claiming fans are unfairly comparing it to the stellar Assassin’s Creed 4, most agree that it’s not worth $70. Even those who have enjoyed their time with the beta are claiming that they will probably wait for a major discount before picking it up. Considering how Ubisoft games go on sale all the time, there is some legitimacy to this statement.

Fans are speculating that the price is to help Ubisoft cover all those delays, as this game has been pushed back for seven years. It’s almost hard to believe that this unremarkable-looking pirate game was announced way back in 2017 or 2016, but the truth is stranger than fiction. We wouldn’t be surprised if this is why the game’s price is the same as premium games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Yves Guillemot claims that Skull and Bones will be worth the $70 price, saying that players will be blown away by the final product. While the game could be a competent multiplayer experience, no video game is worth a full $70 if it has no single-player content. Based on these beta reactions, it looks like the general public might have a similar reaction.
