Halo Infinite fan and Forge aficionado RedNomster has shared an exciting new creation, 'The Halo RPG'. The ambitious project takes inspiration from various turn-based video games and table top RPGs to provide a unique experience for groups of one to eight players.
One team of players is tasked with assisting the United Nations Space Command as they rescue a prisoner, while the Covenant must keep their prisoner secure. The game's map is split into a forest and excavation site, providing plenty of opportunities for ambushes and strategic plays.
The overall goal is to eradicate enemies' troops, but a unique twist sees UNSC players granted a victory for successfully rescuing the enemy's prisoner. In a full breakdown of The Halo RPG posted to RedNomster's YouTube channel, players are treated to some behind-the-scenes and an extensive tutorial.
Baldur's Gate 3 and Dungeons and Dragons are specifically mentioned as inspirations, giving RPG fans an idea of how to play despite the unique control scheme. The inspiration has been channelled into combat, with a degree of randomness deciding whether a unit attacks the desired enemy, throws a grenade, or misses their attack entirely - just like rolling a dice in DnD.
The work put into making the mode accessible is staggering, with support for first person and top-down perspectives, toggle-able 'chess' pathing, and more. The creator goes on to share that the mode took over "500 hours of passion" and "1,400 scripting nodes" to perfect.
