Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, originally announced as Budokai Tenkaichi 4, has fans of the hit anime franchise salivating after its recent trailer at The Game Awards. Interestingly enough, the game has been in development for five years, making fans realize Xenoverse 2 was getting tons of DLC so Sparking Zero could be made.
Jun Furutani, the producer for Sparking Zero, spoke with IGN India about the upcoming arena fighter, who hyped up the hard-hitting gameplay. Furutani also revealed that the game had been in development for five years, which is why the arena fighter looks amazing.
While Xenoverse 2 was barely mentioned, many fans realized that Xenoverse 2 was constantly getting updated so Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO could get developed with no issue. Now that Sparking! ZERO is finally coming out next year, many anime fans are thanking Xenoverse 2 for keeping the lights on, as they say in show business.
Hilariously, we don’t know if Xenoverse 2 will finally stop developing DLC, as the live-service brawler has attempted to end many times. One of the DLC stories with Uub even had Supreme Kai of Time calling for the end of Xenoverse 2, at least until more DLC was added.
Fans like to joke about Xenoverse 2, but we have to give the devs props since it’s a pretty competent live-service game. There’s offline play, updates, and DLC came out regularly, each expansion had a good amount of paid and free content, and there wasn't much to complain about. If games like Marvel’s Avengers got the same amount of support as Xenoverse 2, it would still be alive right now.
Now that we’re getting Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, fans are waiting for more concrete details on this arena fighter. The Budokai Tenkaichi games were always known for their large rosters and the trailer from The Game Awards seemingly confirmed that as well. Unfortunately, with the current gaming climate, we wouldn’t be surprised if some characters end up being paid DLC.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is coming to PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, though no release window has been confirmed.
