Maps often make or break a Call of Duty title. Some games feature battlegrounds that transcend the hugely popular shooter franchise while others fail to make an impact on the community.

Following the launch of Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward is relying on nostalgia in the forms of Shipment and Shoot House to retain players while the new maps struggle to capture the imagination of fans. However, Infinity Ward says new maps are on the way as part of the Season Two update.

With a few weeks until the new update arrives, players are wondering which is the very best Call of Duty map of all time.

The best Call of Duty maps ever

The debate started with Reddit user Open-Ant-5251 asking which is the best map out of Nuketown, Rust, Summit, and Firing Range. The selection led to several additions to the list as fans reminisce about the classic battlefields.

Aside from the four maps mentioned above, the likes of Crash from Call of Duty 4, Toujane from Call of Duty 2, and several Treyarch maps join the discussion. “Most of the best maps in CoD are Treyarch and even their ‘worst’ maps are better than a lot of maps by the other devs,” says one fan. Considering Treyarch titles contain the likes of Standoff, Raid, and Slums alongside Summit, Firing Range, and Nuketown, it’s hard to argue with that logic.

One player jokes Santa Sena Border Crossing from MW2 is their preferred map but we all know that particular map isn’t anywhere near the top of the pile. What’s even more interesting is that there are no mentions of any maps from the last three titles. It’s hardly surprising when Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard struggled to create solid maps compared to their predecessors.

In our opinion, it’s very hard to go wrong with selecting Raid as the greatest Call of Duty map of all time. Its simple three-lane layout combined with several chokepoints led to players utilising the entire arsenal to make an impact. Nowadays, it’s only one or two weapons stand out from the crowd. Let’s hope the new MW2 maps can revive the current map pool.
