Cross-progression in and of itself is, without a doubt, a monumental task for any game played across multiple platforms. It has long been an ask, if not an outright demand, from fans of Respawn's infamous battle royale, Apex Legends.
But their prayers have finally been answered because we can now confirm that cross-progression is officially arriving at Apex Legends at the dawn of Season 19: Ignite.
That's right, as soon as the new season goes live on October 31, 2023, cross-progression will be active. So let's take a look at exactly how it's going to work and what you can expect to see when merging your accounts.
It's been confirmed by Respawn that cross-progression will be mandatory, and almost automatic. That might sound a little scary, but it's just the developer's way of combining everyone's accounts into one easy package. This means you'll have the same account across all platforms, including PC, Xbox, Playstation, and even the Nintendo Switch. So no matter what platform you're logging in with, the account will remain the same.
Once players' accounts are linked under one EA ID, they can play on any platform of their choosing with the same progression, cosmetics, and stats. That's right, every single cosmetic on an old account - so those with the much-loved Heat Sink Flatline skins on their old console accounts, for example - will now have access to their golden oldies.
Cross-progression in Apex Legends will also bring over all existing Apex coins, Apex packs, legend tokens, and crafting materials from the old accounts, as well as the much-sought-after heirloom shards and the heirlooms themselves. We don't have any word yet about whether doubled-up heirlooms will be 'refunded' for shards, but we do know that existing heirlooms will make their way over to master accounts once they've merged.
Fans are hoping that this merge also includes statistics, as the badges and trackers are considered cosmetics, too. We sadly don't have any confirmation on whether stats from old accounts will count towards combined cross-progression master accounts, but we have hope that that is the case. So we're looking forward to hopefully seeing some of the stacked player banners once everything is combined into one.
