Grand Theft Auto 6

It's been a long time since Grand Theft Auto 5 launched, almost 6 years to be exact. We're well aware that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been in development for some time, but we've barely had a sniff as to what GTA 6 might include or when there will be a release date. Recently, a GTA 6 leak emerged claiming that we may be returning to different eras of Grand Theft Auto. Although, the sources were proven to be fake, these GTA 6 leaks are never too far from the truth and what better platform to announce it on than Gamescom 2019?

Elder Scrolls 6

If like us, you're probably a bit tired of hearing which console Skyrim will be appearing on next and rather hear about the next major title in the Elder Scrolls series. Since E3 2018, where the game was announced to be in development, Elder Scrolls 6 has had very little to say about itself. It was completely absent from conversations at E3 2019; so where is it? Perhaps they needed the extra time to get the right presentation and information for the public? Or maybe they're still deciding what platform this game will be made for; could we be looking at the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett? Gamescom 2019 will hopefully answer these questions.

Diablo 4

Seven years on from its initial release, fans are waiting to hear more about the future of  the franchise; Diablo 4. They may not need to wait long, Blizzard are advertising roles for an “Unnamed project” in the Diablo franchise including: lead character and concept artists, software engineers, a lead narrative designer and an executive producer. Diablo 3’s first expansion was announced at Gamescom back in 2013, will we hear some information on its predecessor at Gamescom 2019?

Street Fighter 6

This iconic franchise in the fighting game genre has had it's most recent title, Street Fighter 5, in the spotlight for over 3 years. It wasn't the most well received title upon launch, but it's Arcade Edition addressed the issues players had with it originally. With many fighting games being released, it's not hard to believe that fans are turning their attention elsewhere; especially with the lack of unique in-game content at present. Capcom have remained quiet on Street Fighter 6, but many are anticipating something to come soon and Gamescom 2019 could be our first hint.

Gears Tactics

You may be wondering: what happened to this game? It made it's debut at E3 2018, but has yet to show its face since. At E3 2019, Gears of War producer Rod Fergusson said that it is still in development but they would talk about it later. We know we'll hear about the Gears 5 Horde mode at Gamescom 2019, can we also expect to hear a bit more about Gears Tactics?

Dead Island 2

Remember this game? The first game was so well received by everyone, a sequel was put into development shortly after. Five years later, we're still waiting for Dead Island 2. In fairness, it did go through three developer changes but THQ addressed it's future in a presentation earlier this year, saying that it is still in development. Having originally been announced at E3 2014, early development gameplay was shown off at Gamescom the same year. As there was nothing to show at E3 2019, could it be that Gamescom 2019 is where we see it once again?

Mario Kart 9

We've yet to see a new Mario Kart game for over 5 years, since Mario Kart 8’s debut on the Wii U. Yes, you can argue that it's Deluxe port to the Nintendo Switch was this console generation's version, but we expect more of Nintendo. It's likely we won't hear about Mario Kart 9 for a few years, but the E3 2019 conference was hardly a home run in terms of announcements, Gamescom 2019 could be sent into a frenzy with a new Mario Kart; they need to do something to compete with the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett.

Detective Pikachu (Switch)

Shortly before E3 2019, Detective Pikachu was announced to be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company, announced a follow-up to the original Nintendo 3DS game at a press conference in Tokyo. The details were left vague but claimed to offer a conclusion to the original, as it was left on a cliffhanger. Whether this is an expansion on the first game with extra content or a sequel, remains to be seen. To announce this information and then give few details smells like a ploy to reveal more about it at Gamescom 2019.

Assassin's Creed Ragnarok

Since the franchise began in 2007, Assassin's Creed has been pumping out a game every one or two years. There has been no talk about a new game in the franchise, but the focus is on their latest installment Assasin's Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft confirmed they are skipping 2019, but could we see a game in 2020? Or are Ubisoft taking a longer break to produce the next title? This would mean we could see our first Assassin's Creed title on the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett. There was a rumour circulating that the next game was called 'Assassin's Creed Ragnarok', set in the Viking times, but was quickly debunked. Gamescom 2019 would be a great time to unveil a new Assassin's Creed game and generate excitement, especially as they aim to support Odyssey and keep the fans engaged.

Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell has been absent for 6 years and fans are growing impatient as they await Sam Fischer's return. According to Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO, the backlash and feedback from fans has turned people off of working on the game; clearly they're very passionate about it. However, they did confirm that there are individuals working on the brand but no hints have been given when we might hear more. It would be a stretch to expect to hear more about it soon, as Ubisoft have a number of titles in the works such as Watch Dogs Legion. However, could we hear a tease or even receive some information on it's future at Gamescom 2019?
