How to Make Money in Disco Elysium

To make money in Disco Elysium, you need to accept that there’s certain implications to doing so. There’s many ways to make money, but some of these approaches will have game and story consequences that last long after you accept - or even spend - the cash.

With that in mind, we’ve outlined some of the ways you can make money. There’s a huge range of ways to do so, from scraping pocket change to earning huge amounts of cash in business, but we’ve put some of the easy basics below. If you’re ever short of money, here’s some very viable options to get it back.

  • Check containers or the ground. Pressing TAB will highlight all interactable objects nearby, and sometimes there can just be réal on the floor or left in draws (though it's not usually much).
  • Sell bottles at the Fritte. After going out of the Whirling-in-Rags, head towards the beach until you see the drunk man. Pick up the yellow bag next to him, and from this point on, you’ll be able to pick up and sell empty bottles at the convenience store next to the strike. They’re only 0.10 réal each, but it can make a difference.
  • Sell postcards and unwanted clothes at the pawn shop. The pawn shop is to the South-West of the Whirling-in-Rags, and will take any equipment you don’t want. You can also find collectible postcards in containers around the game, which you can sell here too.

How to Pay the Whirling-in-Rags Damages Bill

One of the most pressing financial issues early on is paying the bill for your destroyed room at the Whirling-in-Rags. You can reduce the bill by passing an Authority check with the owner, Garte, then say that you won’t pay for the windows. He won’t be pleased, but this’ll reduce the price to 30 réal. Talking to Kim and accepting his help will have him sell his hubcaps for 200 réal. Either way, the hubcaps will cover the payment, but you’ll have a far greater profit margin along the way.
