Destiny 2's Grindy New Transmog Material Is Time-Gated

Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer is finally here, and it finally adds 'transmog' for Guardians to tweak their appearance using armour they've collected.

The process is, admittedly, grindy and confusing, with a cap on how many pieces of armour you can create per season.

As we've said before, it's pretty awful, and it turns out it's actually even worse than we'd imagined.

Destiny 2's Grindy New Transmog Material Is Time-Gated

According to a new Reddit post from u/alone-homie, it appears Synthstrand, the base material collected from kills, is actually time-gated - meaning you can only grab a certain amount within any time period.

The post suggests that every two minutes, like clockwork, the Synthstrand would drop from a kill.

Another user, u/I3igB, ran the numbers and noted that to hit the Transmog cap for a single character, you'll need to play for over 53 hours. For three characters, that's six days and 16 hours.

That's an awfully long time to spend earning cosmetics out of gear you've already earned.

Still, if you're prepped for a grind, be sure to check out our transmog guide here.
