When you get tired of cruising around Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City in your highly customised ride, blasting your best Rammstein playlist, you might fancy getting into a bit of a scuffle with some grunts just for kicks.

However, if you’ve sunk plenty of hours into CD Projekt Red’s latest technological marvel, you might find that the enemies you’re clashing with don’t offer quite enough of a challenge. Even with how high you've cranked the difficulty.

Luckily, a new mod might be just what you need to spice things up in an interesting way, bringing some extra computing talent to the bad guys of Night City.

Cyberpunk 2077 modder distributes copies of ‘Hacking For Dummies’ around Night City

This mod is called ‘Amateur Hackers’ and is the work of modder Scissors123454321, whose previous work includes adding vehicle-based combat and robotic companions to the game.

But this time, they’ve decided to enrol many of the citizens of Night City on a computing for beginners course, causing them to develop a basic grasp of hacking. This means they can now deploy their knowledge in their fights against you.

So, instead of being hacked being nothing more than a rare occurrence, as it is in the base game due to the relatively small number of enemy netrunners you encounter, now should be something that you have to deal with on a regular basis. This mod allows for around 30 to 50% of enemy groups made up of five or more people now containing a hacker.

What does the mod do?

The mod is made even more interesting via the fact that it requires and works with modder rmk1234’s ‘AI Netrunners Enhanced’, which adds a bunch of new quick hacks to the arsenal of every netrunner. It also fixes some bugs that stop them from hacking you at certain times.

The amateur hackers will have a smaller selection of available hacks compared to these skilled professionals, along with taking longer to execute hacks, meaning that you don’t have to worry about every hacker you run across being able to make your life hell in an immersion-breaking manner.

The mod also requires that you grab modder Yamashi’s ‘Cyber Engine Tweaks’ in order to make it function as intended.
