Shiba Inu Robinhood Listing: A Year-Long Campaign By SHIB Holders

So, it finally happened. Robinhood listed Shiba Inu. After months of wondering whether Robinhood would list SHIB, holders were left stunned by unannounced new listings on Robinhood that finally saw SHIB come to the platform. But how did we get here?

Well, it didn’t exactly happen overnight. This is the result of months of dedicated pressure on Robinhood from the ShibArmy, who blew up every single Robinhood tweet with one question: “When SHIB?”

Now that SHIB is finally on Robinhood, let’s take a look back at every step that got us here.

Shiba Inu Robinhood Listing Timeline

March 14, 2021: This may seem like an odd place to start. But this is the first day in which SHIB holders asked Robinhood to list Shiba Inu. And like many places, it started with Elon Musk.

Among the DOGE-heavy replies to a tweet from Musk, stood one early SHIB adopter, who said they believed Robinhood would list SHIB.

A few more SHIB-related tweets would come to Vlad Tenev, the CEO of Robinhood, over the next couple of months, but it wasn’t until May when things really took off.

May 16, 2021: As Shiba Inu gained momentum in May 2021, so too did the Robinhood campaign. The iconic Robinhood Shiba Inu petition goes live. In under 10 days, it hit 50,000 signatures.

May 27, 2021: Fake emails from Robinhood begin to circulate, suggesting a SHIB listing is coming on May 28. As expected, it doesn’t happen.

June 15, 2021: The Coinbase Pro listing for Shiba Inu sparks yet another rally for Robinhood to accept SHIB. This pressure on Robinhood would happen at every subsequent exchange listing SHIB.

At this point, the Robinhood petition has over 150,000 signatures.

August 20, 2021: More rumours of the alleged SHIB Robinhood listing continue to take off on social media. At this point, they pointed towards a September 2021 release.

September 16, 2021: Another huge day for SHIB as Coinbase adds the token. More pressure is put on SHIB. Fake images of Robinhood emailing holders stating Shiba Inu continue to circulate, too, as does ‘insider information’ about a listing.

November 5, 2021: The Robinhood petition hits 500,000 signatures.

November 9, 2021: During a Yahoo Finance event, the Robinhood COO praised the Shiba Inu community, stating: “They really engage with us and really let us know what they want.” However, she said she was unable to give details about any new listings.

December 19, 2021: Previous Shiba Inu supporter Ask The Doctor states a reliable source told them a SHIB listing would come between March and April 2022, following the Robinhood cryptocurrency wallet launch.

December 29, 2021: Typing Shiba on Robinhood reveals a ‘Crypto Gift’ link, sparking more rumours of an upcoming listing.

January 12, 2022: Political outlet Zerohedge says a Shiba listing on Robinhood would come in February.

January 28, 2021: Throughout January, several Robinhood executives give cagey answers to questions about a Shiba Inu listing. The common theme of these executives is that they praised the energy and support from SHIB, but could not talk about future listings.

In a Q4 earnings call, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev states they aren’t planning to list SHIB or new coins soon. When asked specifically about SHIB and new coins, he says:

So the main concern with adding a large number of coins is that platforms that are adding lots of them could be adding unregistered securities. So they're watching the space closely. We're being deliberate. We want to avoid triggering SEC registration requirements for cryptocurrencies.

February 09, 2022: Robinhood Chief Brokerage Officer Steve Quirk says Robinhood is exploring “finding compliant ways to expand that”, in relation to their cryptocurrency offerings.

February 27, 2022: Shiba Inu Growth member Milkshake makes a passionate call to Robinhood to list SHIB. She says:

Let's talk or put me in contact with who I need to speak with. Let me tell you why this opportunity is unique for Robinhood, over 1.1M+ holders. You're missing out.

April 12, 2022: Robinhood lists Shiba Inu Coin, alongside Solana, Polygon, and Compound. SHIB's price jumps up over 20% as a result.
