During its recent earnings call, Activision announced it’s working on Call of Duty 2021 with Sledgehammer in the lead (thanks Charlie Intel).
“We are very excited for this year’s premium Call of Duty release. Development is being led by Sledgehammer Games and the game is looking great and on track for its fall release,” Daniel Alegre, Activision COO, said during the call.
While that’s about the same as announcing the sun will rise tomorrow, the Call of Duty 2021 announcement carries some interesting details with it, not least of which is confirmation the delay rumors were false.
Sledgehammer is building Call of Duty 2021 specifically for PC and next-gen consoles.
Activision didn’t say what that might entail for the next Call of Duty game.
However, if the upcoming next-gen updates for Warzone are anything to go by, we can at least expect better load times and crisper visuals.
Sledgehammer is Developing Call of Duty 2021
The popular theory is that the new Sledgehammer Call of Duty 2021 game will be called WW2 Vanguard and will be set, obviously, in the WW2 era again.
Where some rumors state this will be an alternative WW2 timeline, more reliable sources suggest it’s a straight WW2 re-telling similar to the recent Black Ops Cold War.
Whatever the case, Activision said Call of Duty 2021 will be integrated into the CoD ecosystem, which likely means some kind of crossover with CoD: Warzone.
